There was a time when finding love was connected to the tight circle your family had. If your mother knew a friend who had a guy searching for a girl, it was enough. In a matter of weeks everybody was able to breathe lightly knowing you won’t die as an old maid or as a weird Peter Pan-type of bachelor. In the celebration of fast arranged love, people were feeling a sort of inner peace, predicting a good future for the youngsters who will make small/big adjustments to get along. It is way better struggling than being alone with 50 cats, right? Well, nowadays, guys and girls rarely listen to their mothers, which is not necessarily bad. No parent should be allowed to be a dictator in the child’s life.Today’s generation sees tradition as old, not fun and just plain boring. So they say. How can you possibly stop at one station when there is a whole map ahead of you? Love at first sight, who believes in this nonsense, especially when it’s so easy to get some at the switch of a button? This perspective that people have about love is deeply disturbing and sad. Accepting the fact that they just like to be comfortable, they swipe, swipe, swipe.

There are so many dating apps now that it would take you half of your life or maybe more to make an account and blabber small insignificant chat with strangers from there. The excitement of having so many false opportunities, from all different social environments, diverse ethnicities, looks, is overwhelming. You can talk to Fernanda one day and with Jing-Mei in another. Pamela or Alyona might wait for your click tomorrow. Mrrr, what a world of delight this must be! Unfortunately, at one  point, some get tired. The emotionally intelligent ones. You see, chatting over a bright screen can only get you so far. Although it’s a good exercise for your fingers, it’s slowly taking a toll on your heart. Emotionally, you can’t really connect like this. But why some people, despite the superficiality, choose to go along with it?

Let’s take the comfort factor into account. People are, in general, fans of their comfort zone. In the love area, most function on the same principle. It is so easy to choose to not communicate and keep an active window while joggling with other 3 or 10 girls or men stuck in the small dialogue screen. It’s easy, it’s carefree, it’s comfortable. It makes people feel like they hold no responsibility to the conversation or to the communication process. The good old fashioned manners are going down the drain because behind a screen nobody holds you responsible for anything. You can pretend to be somebody that you are not, you can say big words and never put your money where your mouth is, you can pretty much play around and get away with it. How can this be considered proper courtship is something that people really messed up in our modern times.

I have heard about people talking online for months, sending all kind of lovey dovey stuff and feeling mushy love. Until that relationship had to take a real form. Then people panicked. Oh, wait, this is supposed to become serious? Somebody announce Fernanda, Pamela, Jing Mei and many more that this Juan is having a long queue of women standing in line, waiting for the real deal. Comfortably. You see, comfort is the problem with sort of apps. The fact that people are sitting comfortably on YOUR time to just kill boredom and pretend it could be love. It is not. Emotionally, this type of connections are draining you of your energy. Long term, they rarely lead to success. Somebody who is ok with being comfortable to be away from you physically, emotionally, is somebody who does not understand the concept of love. Therefore she or he will never love you as you want or need. No app can replace real genuine human contact. It’s like drinking soda instead of water. You feed your soul with shallow conversations, endless love stickers and still go to bed alone, ready for the next day to do it all over again. It’s another form of torture, with the hopes for something more. This is why people go along with it, because deep in their heart, they always wait for that something more. Maybe it will lead to something in x months, maybe it will be better. False hope and a bouquet of smiling emoticons should get you through the day. Is this the best relationship that a human can have now? Really? Maybe the arranged marriages are not so bad in comparison to this. At least, in the latter, people actually hold hands, live together and form a couple, possibly making babies too. Real ones.

The necessity to have a reality check when dealing with such dating apps is crucial. I don’t say that they are entirely bad, only that prolonged stayings in there might lead to waste of time and potential. We all liked fairy tales when we were little, they were wonderful, almost out of this world. In case of love, we need the fairy tale to continue with a real story. Because there is nothing, absolutely nothing, better than the presence of your loved one next to you. And there is no app to replace this yet. Tinder, take this!

ROMANIAN

Atunci, a apărut panica.
