Advices…When we feel we reach upon an obstacle in life, we usually have the rather human tendency to look for advice. Everywhere. We ask our family members first, if we have trust in their judgment, then we move on to our close friends and, even in desperate cases, to strangers. It is not unusual to do so, it is not a bad thing entirely, but most people rely solely on this method of solving problems. They look for the approval of others all the time, all their lives. Don’t get me wrong, it is perfectly logical to seek feedback, but the source of the feedback is what concerns me in this matter. You see, we are all imperfect, we have the tendency to project our own inner beliefs and frustrations into the advice that we give others. We cross contaminate. I believe that there are very few people capable to detach from their own core of experiences and give you an objective rational well-intended opinion.
If a friend of yours or a family member is in an unhappy relationship and you are single, they will probably do their best in giving you advices that will keep you single, it is their own way to gain their freedom through your person while they remain stuck in their doomed meaningless relationship or they will do their best to get you stuck with the wrong partner, just they way they are (misery loves company). If a friend got cheated on, they will probably advice you to get on the paranoia ride and look for all the signs in every person that you meet, projecting their own fears upon you. If a friend is screaming on the inside for the meaning of life, being depressed, with no other purpose than to kill time, their advice for you will probably be to just be as you are, expecting and giving nothing, feeling good in your own suffering until something changes out of the blue. They will drag you after them and you won’t even realize. Contamination is everywhere, so how do we seek for the proper advice though? Because we do need one, we can’t just isolate ourselves from a different perspective.
Let’s think of you as if you were a tree. What is the most important part of the tree? The roots. Your roots feed you from the ground, selecting the nutrients that it needs in order for you to grow. Unnecessary branches are pruned, leaving room for new ones. Our parents plant the seed. They give our fragile roots the best they know to give until we are prepared to do the work for ourselves. Society is our soil. We select from this society different nutrients: entertainment, financial security, love, friendship, spiritual fulfillment, compassion etc….but these are not the only elements contained by the ground. We also have envy, hate, resentment, toxic people, corruption, vices, despair, lies, the pests of the soil, the pests threatening the well being of the tree. Looking from advice is a similar process with that of the roots searching for the good things. You can’t find a good advice in a morally corrupt person. Before asking for advice, analyze their life, their achievements, the way they behave with other people, the way they spend their time, their vision for their own future. If there is a big blank space filled with nothing than bad choices and nothing meaningful achieved, save your words and don’t bother asking for an advice. Most likely you will screw yourself up on this one. Unless you enjoy the misery of bad company and sleepwalking through your own life, you can choose to detach yourself from this kind of people. Bad company ruins good characters and thrives when you become the same.
Most of all I feel the need to express this very important idea that most people wish they would have understood it earlier in their existence: your life is not a community project. You can’t just spill the beans with everybody about everything in your life and expect great results. You have to first trust your own judgment, and then seek for advice from people you genuinely admire and who have palpable noble achievements in their existence.
Usually the friends who are always ready for a free advice for everyone are like those nagging street people with free flyers that give you actually nothing. They have an advice for everybody, they get their nose in everybody’s life, they want to know everything in your life and control their entourage. When somebody does that, it is usually an indicator of how miserable, low quality, void of purpose and of morals their life is. Do you really want advice from this kind of “friends”? Don’t build your life upon the thoughts from the “free advice store” of these individuals, nothing good in life was ever achieved with freebies and if you believe otherwise, you are irrational and your life becomes a cloth for all your bad friends to wash their dirty hands off of it.
You are a tree. You can grow into such a majestuous piece of human artwork, your potential is huge, but if you are feeding yourself the wrong nutrients from the soil, you’ll never see the light of the sun on your leaves. Cut off the dead branches that impair your development, whether that means to cut off some people in your life, to change your circle, to change your job, your city , your lover, your whatever, avoid pests and you will live to see the light of sun upon you. It’s called reaching your potential and we all deserve it and owe it to God to achieve it.

Sfaturi…
