In this collage I wanted to explore the theme of climate change and how it will affect our future and the fate of the animals. My collage has been selected for the online exhibition within International Collage Biennial Fragments of the Future , 2025 Collage Obsession edition and you can access it here http://arte.uvt.ro/bicco/.

I see a future with rising temperatures and polluted air. I wanted to depict the loss of a lot of species by illustrating a giraffe split in two while people are taking selfies and ignoring what happens in reality. I have put QR codes as we will probably have to use them in order to see how some animals used to look like back in the days when they existed. On top of the cat with the mask I have illustrated the sadness of what it means to have your environment destroyed due to man’s actions: natural disasters, more fires lead to a bleak planet to live on. There is nothing exciting to see for the woman and her children. I have used scotch tape to show how life has become more like plastic. Literally. The future that we will have 100 years from now is going to make us return to the old days when what was there was not appreciated and for sure when it comes to climate change and loss of species we already see the effects nowadays.
I believe that plenty of people have become impervious to what happens around them. I have put the lady looking at the phone while disaster is happening all around. It is a shocking image to see that someone can sit and scroll while everything around is collapsing. We are living now in a scroll dependant society. While real human beings become invisible to us we cling to that plastic phone more than ever. Will someone’s scream for help ever have a chance to be heard?

Innocent animals don’t deserve the mess that we have caused on this planet and they are the first in line to suffer. Global warming makes many of the places on this earth harder and harder to live on. We always see disaster as something far away in the future, happening decades from now. It is so comfortable to put this burden on the shoulders of the next generations thinking that we will have it easy. I look around and see the massive evil root of our society’s future collapse: egocentrism. It is the culture of me , me , me and my self love that destroys what makes us human. We assist to massive loss of humanity, empathy and compassion. Almost merged with technology humans lose not only a good climate and animal species but also what makes them human….
