As the brush met the canvas, I thought of love—the delicate dance between two souls, each whole in their own right, yet drawn together to create something more beautiful than the sum of their parts. In the quiet swirls of watercolour, I found inspiration in the idea of monogamy, embodied by the French Angelfish. These creatures, like us, share a profound connection, proving that love can exist in its purest form without the need to complete one another. Instead, love flourishes when we, as individuals, are already whole.

I reject the notion of “being someone’s other half.” To love is to stand strong in your own individuality, to be content alone before joining with another. This philosophy inspired my latest project, where each fish in the illustration sprouts wings of growth—metaphors for personal evolution, a bond that challenges us to become better versions of ourselves. In a relationship, we are not only partners but mirrors, reflecting the beauty and flaws that shape our shared journey.

The ocean of life is vast, and its waves—though sometimes turbulent—are where love truly deepens. With the right companion, you can weather any storm, knowing that the foundation you’ve built together is unshakable. Life may be serene on calm waters, but true resilience shows itself when we face the storm. Love, like the sea, is organic; it tests our strength and our commitment. In these trials, we find the power to unite, choosing happiness and support over blame, recognizing that challenges are not obstacles but opportunities for growth.

My watercolour illustration “Be happy” seeks to capture this essence of togetherness and duality. Love, like a dance, requires two participants, and it’s in this dynamic that we see the creation of something unique. A relationship, like a dance, is an intricate exchange of harmony and chaos, joy and hardship. Even in the midst of emotional turmoil, we learn that it takes two to truly create the rhythm of connection. The power of this dance lies not in perfection, but in the shared experience.

In the flow of life, partners create their own little world, a private whirlpool of understanding and love. They move through life’s challenges, making room for their own unique melody. This is the true beauty of a partnership: the creation of a sanctuary, a place where two individuals can be themselves, together, amidst the vastness of the world.

Love, like art, is a journey. It’s about growth, resilience, and the creation of a safe haven where two people can continue their own dance, supporting each other through the ever-changing tides of life.
